What is this Indicator?
This indicator shows the percentage of enrolled kindergarten students that have received all required immunizations. Required immunizations include 4+ DTP, 3+ Polio, 2+ MMR, 3+ Hep B, and 1+ Var or physician documented varicella disease |
| Why this is important: Immunizations protect children from contracting and spreading communicable diseases such as measles, mumps, and whooping cough. These diseases can result in extended school absences, hospitalizations, and death. Childhood illnesses also have a significant financial impact on parents including costly medical bills and loss of work time. |
| Technical Note: Data were obtained from 529,400 kindergartners enrolled in 8,301 California public and private schools. The distribution is based on data from 58 California counties. |
