What is this Indicator? This indicator shows the median household income in this county compared to the state median household income. Household income is the sum of money income received in the calendar year by all household members 15 years and older.
Why this is important: Median household income reflects the relative affluence of an area. Counties with higher median household incomes are likely to have more educated residents and lower unemployment rates. Higher employment rates lead to better access to healthcare and better health outcomes, since many families get their health insurance through their employer. Areas with higher median household incomes will also have higher home values and more disposable income.
Technical note: The distribution is based on the California median value from U.S. Census data. |
