The Healthy Cities Foundation was formed from within the International Healthy Cities Project (IHC) to design, develop and support the Healthy Communities Network o­nline. The IHC has been affiliated with UC Berkeley and operating within the Public Health Institute. It has created a list of principles that help communities build, implement and sustain health improvement projects, resulting over the last 15 years in dynamic interconnections of people, organizations and networks. Today, with World Health Organization endorsement of these principles, over 7,500 cities around the world call themselves Healthy Cities or Healthy Communities, and many more follow the Healthy City principles in their various projects.
