Medications for Mental Health

Measurement Period: 2021-2022
This indicators shows the percentage of adults who have taken prescription medications, such as antidepressants or sedatives, almost daily for two weeks or more, for an emotional or personal problem.

Why is this important?

Psychological distress can affect all aspects of our lives. It is important to recognize and address potential psychological issues before they become critical. Prescription medications can be a crucial stabilizing factor during a mental illness, helping patients to function as normally as possible. However, these medications can also have unwanted side effects, so they should only be used when they are truly needed. In certain cases, a combination of short-term medication, counseling, and other strategies can help patients overcome mental and emotional problems. Other conditions may require long-term medication.
